Burke: Thanking your bus drivers is the least you can do

Callum Burke, Staff Reporter February 27, 2023
Colorado State University students implement a wide variety of transportation methods into their daily lives.  For the most part, CSU is proud of its bike-friendly campus, which contains several different bike lanes and routes designed to keep riders safe. Although bikes and other simpler methods of getting to and from campus and beyond are often in the spotlight or praised by the community, it is the bus system that truly deserves a piece of this positive recognition.

On Jan. 30, the Fort Collins Police Department posted a very intriguing Tweet online.  For an account ordinarily used to cover local car crashes, timely traffic issues and the occasional retweet of Larimer County’s most wanted list, this particular tweet struck media attention as it contained something entirely different. Something rarely, if ever, posted about by a police department.

Fort Collins and riding a bike go together like CAM the Ram and gameday – They simply do not exist without each other.  In fact, the popularity of biking is so much so that The League of American Bicyclists named Colorado State University as one of five schools in America to obtain platinum-level biking.

Snow is an integral part of the Colorado winter lifestyle, and Fort Collins is no exception.  On average, Fort Collins receives nearly 48 inches of snowfall annually, and with that comes a lot of fun prospects involving the powdery fluff blinding you from your kitchen window.
Burke: Title IX is not just about sports, it includes all of us

Burke: Title IX is not just about sports, it includes all of us

Callum Burke, Staff Reporter December 6, 2022
The discussion of Title IX, specifically within a collegiate setting, is not uncommon. It is a topic mentioned in classrooms, lecture halls and even in passing conversations on campus among students. But seldom do those discussions lead beyond the notion of the amendment giving women equal opportunities within sports.  Although true, and playing a pivotal role in the popularity of Title IX, there is much more to the amendment than equal sporting opportunities that a regular student should be able to comprehend.
Skiers and snowboarders ride up to the Overlook Restaurant at Breckenridge Ski Resort

Seriously: Hey, out-of-staters, here are 3 tips for mountain etiquette

Callum Burke , Staff Reporter November 29, 2022
Well, folks, it's that time of year. The mountains are constantly dumping snow, the temperatures are remaining brisk and, as a result, nearly every resort is now officially open to snowboarders and skiers for the 2022-23 season. Let us rejoice in the good news!  For most Colorado natives, this is a sacred time of year full of possibilities on the slopes. Maybe it's a new trick in the terrain park or a new run at a favorite resort begging to be shredded, but nothing but positive thoughts should be streaming through hopeful minds.
Canvas Stadium fills with students and fans for Colorado State Universitys season opener football game against Middle Tennessee State University

Burke: Dear CSU football fans: Stop leaving games at halftime

Callum Burke, Staff Reporter November 2, 2022
Colorado State University football is very important in Fort Collins. Every weekend throughout the season, if our beloved Rams are playing at home, fans pack the stands tight and dress up in their favorite green and gold attire to cheer on their favorite college team.

Burke: You don’t have to be a ‘political person’ to understand politics

Callum Burke, Staff Writer October 24, 2022
Colorado State University embraces a lot of free speech opportunities; especially right on campus. On any given afternoon, with Colorado weather permitting, it is not uncommon to come across a crowd of people discussing a political issue such as religion or even something a little more mundane like minimum wage prices that don’t necessarily always force your hand to get involved. Other times, the topic is about a more serious issue within politics that may grab your attention and even incline you enough to chime in with your thoughts.

There are very few occasions on Colorado State University’s campus that spark as much joy as the football team scraping a win. Thankfully, our beloved Rams got their first taste of victory in the season this past weekend against the University of Nevada, Reno's Wolf Pack, and everyone involved seemed to be happy about the result and eagerly looking on to our homecoming game to grab another — at least, almost everyone involved.

Burke: Hey, CSU, it’s time to add a skate park to campus

Callum Burke, Collegian Columnist October 4, 2022
Colorado State University is a very wheel-friendly campus. From bicycles to rollerblades to skateboards — even the occasional unicycle — when you step foot on campus you are sure to be met with a countless amount of wheeled vehicles. Since Fort Collins and CSU are well known for being bicycle-friendly, why we do not also possess a skate park on campus for those who partake in the sport to show off their talents?

Burke: Fort Collins embraces graffiti art without the vandalism

Callum Burke, Collegian Columnist September 13, 2022
No one can deny how pleasing to the eye graffiti can be, especially in a town as art-oriented as Fort Collins. Our city is full of public art and seems to embrace the talents of those willing to show it off. Unfortunately, this does not mean anyone who possesses a can of spray paint is able to go to the first brick wall they see fit and start to scribble a cartoon dog or write their name in bubble letters.

Callum Burke, Collegian Columnist September 8, 2022
Another school year has commenced, and with the new semester comes new foolish-minded activities and disciplines attempted to become everyday habits by students. Atop the list of those habits is developing a regular workout routine, usually implementing the many luxuries offered by the Colorado State University Student Recreation Center.
