LTTE: ‘Leaders’ of DEI have failed the students: A call for action within ASCSU

LTTE: ‘Leaders’ of DEI have failed the students: A call for action within ASCSU

Diversity, equity, and inclusion have become increasingly relevant at Colorado State University, and it is crucial that all students feel welcome in an inclusive environment. It is also vital that leaders responsible for spearheading DEI efforts at CSU implement these principles in a fair and unbiased manner. Unfortunately, there has been a weaponization of DEI within Associated Students of Colorado State University, primarily by well-established Student Diversity Programs and Services representatives who are considered our ‘leaders’ of DEI.

Fort Collins is home to many mom-and-pop shops for you to peruse, especially in Old Town. If your family comes up to visit, Old Town is the first place you want to show off aside from campus.  The plethora of goodies to be found in these shops come from all over, but it is so special to find something that speaks to you and then learn that it comes from a local artist or craftsperson.
Seriously: Lying about college in a pandemic is the natural thing to do

Seriously: Lying about college in a pandemic is the natural thing to do

Bella Eckburg, Opinion Director March 21, 2023
As a senior counting down the weeks to graduation and repeating the dreary steps of my day-to-day schedule, I’ve thought a lot about the stories I’ll tell about my time here. I live as a functional recluse most of the time, but, like you normies, I have the capability to lie.  To be honest, college amid a pandemic was not giving the same energy as the crazy campus life you’ve undoubtedly seen in movies, but that’s why lying is such an important skill to develop.

Weed to Know: Introducing ‘weederall,’ your productive cannabinoid bud

Bella Eckburg, Opinion Director March 9, 2023
Tetrahydrocannabivarin, or THCV, is a cannabinoid that does the opposite of THC while binding to the same receptor, giving you a relaxing but productive cannabis experience.

For an organization in charge of delegating funding, it seems some representatives in ASCSU have repeatedly mishandled funds and remained unaccountable.

PTSD can’t be cured with cannabis, may ease some symptoms

Bella Eckburg, Opinion Director March 2, 2023
PTSD is complex without considering the effects of cannabis, so it's important to know your mind and body and take care of yourself if you choose to partake.

Seriously: CSU still standing in ‘The Last of Us’ makes perfect sense

Bella Eckburg, Opinion Director March 1, 2023
Recently an episode of “The Last of Us,” a show based on a popular video game with the same name streaming on HBO, showed the two main characters arriving at the campus of the "University of Eastern Colorado,” the “Home of the Big Horns.”  Many fans of the show speculated that this was a nod to Colorado State University and our beloved CAM the Ram, and the official Colorado State University Instagram and Twitter accounts posted about the possible wink toward our campus.

LTTE: CSU basketball fans shouting ‘Russia’ need education, respect

A chant of “Russia, Russia, Russia” erupted from the student section of Moby arena during a recent Colorado State University men’s basketball game against Utah State University. The chant was directed at Max Shulga, a Utah State player from Kyiv, Ukraine.  It has been suggested that the chant arose from ignorance. That if the students only knew of the atrocities Russia is inflicting on the Ukrainian people during its year-long unprovoked invasion of Ukraine, they would have not used this uncivil chant as a tool to try to win a basketball game.

LTTE: Colorado’s wolf reintroduction plan needs improvement

My name is Mark Kohn and I graduated with a Bachelor of Science from Colorado State University in the winter of 2022. I hold a degree in Human Dimensions of Natural Resources as well as a minor in International Development. In 2020, voters in Colorado passed Proposition 114 in favor of wolf reintroduction. Passing only with the slimmest of margins, Prop. 114 ensured that Colorado agencies use the best available science to introduce wolves to their historical ranges in Colorado. It has been three years since voters raced to their ballot drop-offs to show support or opposition to Prop 114, so where are the wolves?

Cannabis can be a game changer for those with chronic pain

Bella Eckburg, Opinion Director February 2, 2023
Cannabis has a variety of effects that we can benefit from, even if we would not consider ourselves of the stoner variety.  I first became interested in cannabis after hearing about how it helps individuals with chronic pain. I have severe scoliosis, with two major curves, so my spine looks like a capital S backward, and I received corrective surgery in 2015 to lessen the curvature at the bottom.

College life can act as a bridge to your adulthood and career — you take specialized classes while often working or maintaining an internship, and that can be a lot of stress! Sometimes, college life can make you feel like your brain is melting.  So, when those days pop up, and you’ve realized it’s mid-week and you have not had a single day that was not dedicated to working a full shift or attending a full course load — or both! — and your brain melt is fully initiated, it’s okay to skip class.
What does it take to get a med card in Colorado?

What does it take to get a med card in Colorado?

Bella Eckburg, Opinion Director January 26, 2023
The legal age to recreationally use cannabis products is 21 years old in Colorado, the same age that determines one’s ability to purchase alcohol; however, medical marijuana access has different rules.  To get a Marijuana Enforcement Division Card in Colorado, which would allow you to enter the medical side of any dispensary to pick up your prescription, you need to first establish your Colorado residency and prove that you are a good candidate for benefitting from cannabis with your healthcare provider.
