About The Collegian sports desk

Editor’s note: As part of a media transparency initiative, on Aug. 20, 2018, The Collegian spent the first day of publishing of the year telling our readers about us. You can read more about the people behind our publication in the Editor’s Blog.

With coverage of each sport at Colorado State, The Collegian sports desk prides itself on covering stories other mediums in the state are not able to.

From sitting in the press box at Canvas Stadium to attending club baseball games at City Park, the reporters of The Collegian go far and wide in an attempt to cover the widest variety of sports with an emphasis in teaching sports journalism through practical experience.

The goal for the section in the upcoming school year is to once again lead the way in coverage of each sport at CSU. Whether it be the juggernaut of Moby Arena in the CSU volleyball team or one of the nation’s leading cross-country teams, content will be abundant for CSU students and those around the school, with the features diving deep into the lives of the athletes that sit alongside the writers that compose them every day in class.

The sports desk plans to focus more on multimedia coverage this year by embedding videos produced by reporters at Collegian TV as well as podcasts and pregame show opportunities through the KCSU radio station’s sports department. The weaving of each media into one will give students and alumni the opportunity to view athletics through several lenses outside of just the written word.
