An offseason of changes continues for the Colorado State men’s basketball team.
Friday afternoon, a school spokesperson confirmed to the Collegian that sophomore guard Carlton Hurst has asked for and been granted a release from his scholarship.
Hurst, a native of Aurora, averaged 1.8 points and 1.5 rebounds for the Rams this past season just over nine minutes per game. That was a substantial decrease from his freshman season where he averaged 16.4 minutes per game and was one of CSU’s first two players off the bench.
However, he found himself stuck in the middle of a logjam at guard position, where CSU returns Gian Clavell, John Gillon, Antwan Scott and Jeremiah Paige, while adding prep standouts Prentiss Nixon, Anthony Bonner and C.J. Keyser in the 2015 recruiting class.
Hurst’s departure leaves Colorado State one scholarship over the NCAA limit of 13.
After a standout career at Aurora Central High School, Hurst chose CSU over offers from New Mexico, St. Marys, Wyoming and Pepperdine.
