After losing ground in the Mountain West standings last weekend, CSU softball enters their final week of play tied in third place. Currently two games behind league-leading San Diego State(10-5) and second place Fresno State (11-7), the Rams must win all three games this weekend to be in the running for first place.
In their last appearance on the diamond, CSU had a chance to take down San Diego State during their final three game series at home. Clinching their first game of the series, CSU began to lose hope for first place after losing the last two games.
In their last three game series of the regular season, the Rams will take on last place in the seven-team league, New Mexico (21-32,3-12). CSU (22-24,8-7) looks to end their season above .500 and if the cards play in their favor: first place.
“We gotta play and win all three games,” junior Chelsea Biglow said. “We have to take care of our part and we have to let last weekend and and learn from our mistakes. Its time to go off the positives.”
Throughout the season, CSU has continued to strive with high energy in game one, and then step back in game two and three.
“We have to go in with that killer instinct and go for the jugular,” CSU coach Jen Fisher said. “We are going to need to put the offense on, put the defense on, and keep putting players on base.”
With a determination coming from the Rams bench, the CSU Softball team also needs to consider the Lobos have only won three games in the WM play. Winning their last game on April 13, the Rams need to play the easy out in order to not over estimate this low ranked New Mexico team.
“You just can’t give up,” Biglow said. “It’s a tough sport. We never give up ,and thats the main thing. We will get the hits to come our way soon.”
This is the last series for the Rams of the regular season. If they do not win two games against the Lobos, they will finish under .500 for the first time in two years.
“Just gotta go in and hope, San Diego State gets taken care of at home,” Biglow said.
