Dozens of students fill the Associated Students of Colorado State University Senate Chambers to share their experiences and listen to others' statements about the impact CSU's Cultural Resource Centers have had on them Feb. 19.
The Associated Students of Colorado State University convened Sept. 17 for the fifth session of the 55th Senate.
Items on the agenda included amending the Board for Student Organization Funding’s composition, ratifying new executive interns and the omnibus lex of the 54th senate.
Following the swearing-in of new senators and associates, Chief Justice Melanie Brousseau gave a presentation about the judicial branch in an effort to be more transparent about how it operates.
“I attended the ASCSU retreat this year, and the two things I heard about the court were that we’re mysterious and we’re mystical, and those are two things that I do not want to be known as, as the court,” Brousseau said. “You should know exactly what the court does in ASCSU and how we can help you, and the resources that are available to you guys as ASCSU officials.”
Brousseau went on to explain court leadership, job descriptions, what jurisdiction the branch has, what internal complaints are and how to file opinion requests.
Following the presentation, the legislative, judicial and executive branches provided updates on their respective work and initiatives.
During reports, Director of Basic Needs Lauren Davis announced the start of C.A.N.S. Around The Oval — or Cash And Nutritious Staples — and the annual Rams Against Hunger food drive. This year, C.A.N.S. kicked off Sept. 15, and Collection Day at The Oval will be Oct. 15.
Following reports, Nathan Fernstedt was ratified as a communications intern for the executive branch. Following Q&A and discussion and debate, Fernstedt was approved and subsequently sworn in.
Moving into old business, Lex #5501, “Omnibus Lex of the 54th Senate Constitutional Amendments,” was confirmed, re-passing the constitutional edits made by the 54th Senate.
The Senate went into committee of the whole to discuss and correct contradictory edits made by the 54th Senate. Following the committee of the whole, the lex was passed 20-1-0 via placard vote.
Moving into new business, Lex #5511, “Amending the BSOF Composition,” was introduced. The lex aims to ensure consistency among the composition of the BSOF’s bylaws and the ASCSU Constitution.
Following Q&A, the legislation was sent to the Internal Affairs and Budgetary Affairs committees for review.
Bill #5512, “Seed Grant Bill,” was introduced, aiming to reinstate the Seed Grant previously passed by the 52nd Senate to provide funds to newly registered student organizations. Following Q&A, the bill was sent to the Internal Affairs, University Affairs and Budgetary Affairs committees for review.
