The Associated Students of Colorado State University have postponed general elections due to the University’s recent decision to move online.
According to an executive order posted to the ASCSU website March 12, the plans were initially to move campaigning and voting periods to April. This timeline would have campaigning carrying on for about 1 1/2 weeks.
Now, with the University moving the remainder of the spring semester online, Elections Manager Connor Cheadle said it’s uncertain whether elections will still happen this semester or if they will be held in the upcoming fall semester.
“But for right now, we luckily bought ourselves time with the initial postponement till late April, so we can think everything through and make a good and well thought out decision,” Cheadle wrote in an email to The Collegian.
Campaigns are recommended to be aware of their financial situations and not to spend their financial resources before plans are finalized, Cheadle wrote.
“For now, we just want to make sure potential candidates do not waste their money on large, or any for that matter, campaign expenses because we do not know what the future will bring yet,” Cheadle wrote.
According to the initial executive order, the elections committee is exploring alternative options to an in-person campaign.
“The elections manager and Elections Committee shall oversee the logistics of the delayed campaigning and voting period,” according to the executive order.
Campaigns and other interested parties can watch the ASCSU elections page for future updates.
