After a long search for a new dean of the College of Liberal Arts, Dr. Ben Withers was confirmed to take the position as head of the college’s operations in an email release to College of Liberal Arts staff. The confirmation comes more than four months after former dean of the college Ann Gill announced plans to retire after leading a 36-year-long career in late 2015.
“I am looking forward very much to working with him closely on all of the opportunities that await the College of Liberal Arts here at CSU,” Provost Rick Miranda said in a release.
Withers currently holds two positions at the University of Kentucky, where he has worked in various positions for a number of years. He serves as both the dean of undergraduate studies and as the associate provost for undergraduate education at the university. In previous years at the University of Kentucky, Withers was the chair of the university’s art program and served as director of their honors program.
According to his professional biography available on the University of Kentucky website, Withers is a native Kentuckian.
