Two out of three Canadian residents support decriminalizing marijuana, according to Yahoo News. Prime minister, Justin Trudeau, announced Friday in his policy speech that cannabis could be legalized by as early as 2016.
“This isn’t about making cannabis more available to smoke, it’s about dealing with a bad prohibitionist model that has led to global carnage,” said Eugene Oscapella, a criminologist from the University of Ottawa.
Legislators hope that legalizing the drug will eliminate the illegal weed market. To start, Health Canada will license six dispensaries. For more about the Canadian prime minister’s plan to regulate the marijuana market, see the full article.
