Today marks the kick off for legal weed sales in Oregon, the third state in the U.S. to legalize the recreational use of marijuana.
Although the drug is still considered illegal under federal law, Oregon residents over the age of 21 can purchase up to a quad at any of the 200 dispensary locations, according to Yahoo News.
The state hopes to diminish the marijuana black market and generate billions in tax dollars. Juliano Hamana, a dispensary customer this morning, and his girlfriend waited in a long line to test out the new product.
“I’m worried about the 25 percent tax coming in January, but for a $10 gram that’s only a bit over $2 more,” said Juliano Hamana, a dispensary customer. “I think it might be worth it for the quality.”
