It was business as usual for the Rams, even on the road, this time in Logan, Utah.
No. 20 Colorado State (17-3, 10-0 MW) remained perfect in Mountain West play with a 3-0 sweep (25-18, 25-19, 25-11) over the Utah State Aggies (5-19, 1-9 MW), the same lopsided result as when the teams first met Sept. 24 at Moby Arena.
The Rams’ setters spread the ball around well, with six different CSU players recording kills in the first set. After dropping the first point of the match, Alex Reid invigorated the Rams with two kills and two blocks during a 7-1 run. CSU ran away with the set from there.
In the second, USU started competitively going point-for-point with the Rams. The teams were tied up at 10-10 when a kill by Alex Poletto gave the Rams a lead they would never relinquish. The Aggies rolled over for CSU in the third set.
The Rams were led offensively by Alex Reid 12 kills and Poletto’s 11, but the pair also anchored the team defensively. Reid recorded 15 digs, while Poletto led all players with six blocks, including the final point of the match.
Senior libero Jaime Colaizzi led CSU with 19 digs. Stat-machine Adrianna Culbert did her part defensively as well with eight digs and five blocks to go along with her nine kills and match-high 27 assists. CSU out-blocked the Aggies 12-3, and out-killed them 52-29. USU was limited to a .110 hitting percentage over the course of the match.
The Rams now return to Fort Collins, Colorado for two home contests against San Diego State and Nevada. CSU has eight conference games remaining, before closing the season with a non-conference home match against Iowa State.
No. 20 CSU hosts the Aztecs (6-16, 3-6 MW) Thursday at 7 p.m. at Moby Arena.
