The Colorado State women’s volleyball team (6-1) tore right through Iona (2-9) in three sets (25-12, 25-22, 25-15) in what served as a bit of a warm up for the Rams before taking on No. 4 Texas (6-1) later in the day.
The Rams cruised in the first set behind the hitting of Alex Reid and Alexandra Poletto, who each finished the set with six kills.
Iona showed some fight, taking an early 8-6 lead in the second set. It would not hold up though as CSU eventually pulled away.
Reid continued to have a field day against the Gaels, recording another nine kills in the second frame to put her at 15 on the day with an impressive .667 hitting percentage.
The Rams finished off the outmatched Gaels in the third set. Iona hit an abysmal .096 percent in the match.
CSU recorded eight blocks, including a season-high six from Acacia Andrews, but it was the defense of Jaime Colaizzi that really made life difficult for Iona. The senior libero finished the match with 16 digs. Cassidy Denny had 11 digs and Reid added another seven.
Reid led the Rams with a match-high 20 kills to tie her career-high. Poletto contributed another 13 kills on a .524 hitting percentage. Crystal Young finished the match with a remarkable 43 assists.
