Colorado State University assembled a committee responsible for reviewing faculty salary equity, in light of female faculty salary concerns.
The committee will devise strategies for detecting inequity on a regular basis, and advise on best practices for analyzing salary inequity concerns for individual members of the CSU community.
The committee is made up of University faculty, administration and external experts, including CSU Executive Director of Human Resources, members of the President’s Standing Committee on the Status of Women Faculty, as well as members of faculty and administration from other universities.
In May, President Tony Frank called for an investigation of gender salary equity. Frank said Provost Rick Miranda and Vice Provost for Faculty Affairs Dan Bush would complete an assessment of all full-time female professors, and receive input from them on whether or not they believe their salary is inequitable based on gender.
Women faculty subject to salary investigation are full-time professors below the regression line for their position and self-nominated faculty regardless of where their salary lies compared to other department colleagues.
Miranda said he hopes the strategies engineered by the committee can be used in future equity concerns.
“Although the initial focus will be on faculty salaries,” Miranda said. “I hope that the methodologies will be more broadly applicable as we consider salary equity issues for our other employees moving forward.”
