Culbert named MW Player of the Week
CSU’s Adrianna Culbert has been named Mountain West Player of the Week after helping the Rams open the season 3-0 with sweeps of Baylor, UC Davis and Northern Iowa. She was also named MVP of the Rams Volleyball Classic.
The senior hitter from Delton, Michigan posted the first triple-double by a CSU player since 2007 against UCD Saturday when she tallied 10 kills, 20 assists and 12 digs. Later that day, she came just one kill shy of accomplishing the feat again, as she finished with nine kills, 15 assists and 13 digs against Northern Iowa.
For Culbert, who was also named the MW Preseason Player of the Year, it marks the fourth time she has received the weekly honor from the conference.
CSU jumps to No. 9 in AVCA poll
After winning the Rams Volleyball Classic and starting the season 3-0 – without losing a single set in the process – the CSU volleyball team has jumped to No. 9 in the latest AVCA Division I Coaches’ Poll.
CSU started the season ranked No. 12 and has now jumped BYU, Wisconsin and North Carolina, all of whom suffered losses over the weekend. The Rams spent 12 weeks ranked in the top-10 last season, climbing as high as No. 6 Oct. 13.
The Rams host Arizona State, who climbed from No. 16 to No. 15 in the latest poll, Friday at 7 p.m. at Moby Arena.
Former Rams basketball star Andy Ogide to represent Nigeria in 2016 Olympics
Former CSU hoops forward Andy Ogide helped lead Nigeria to a win in the championship of AfroBasket 2015, earning the nation an automatic berth in the Rio 2016 Summer Olympics.
Nigeria defeated defending champions Angola in the finals 74-65. The formers Rams star saw 24 minutes of action in the championship game, recording 10 points and eight rebounds.
Ogide played three seasons for CSU from 2008-2011 after transferring from Mississippi. As a senior in 2010-2011, he averaged 17.2 points and 7.7 rebounds per game for the Rams.
