CSU forward J.J. Avila was named the Mountain West Men’s Basketball Player of the Week, the league announced Sunday.
Avila, a native of McAllen, Texas, averaged 28 points, eight rebounds, 3.5 steals and two assists in the Rams’ wins over Utah State and Nevada this past week. It is the second weekly award this for Avila, who is the second CSU player to win the award this year along guard Daniel Bejarano.
In the Rams’ win over Nevada, Avila scored 27 points on 11-for-16 shooting and in CSU’s win over Utah State Saturday, Avila stuffed the stat sheet with 29 points, 13 rebounds, five steals and four assists while leading the team to a key 75-70 road win.
Between the two games, the senior shot 24-for-37 (.645) from the field.
