Sure, being a student at Colorado State and living in Fort Collins is one of the most ideal college experiences. As CSU Rams, we love our city and University, but sometimes, being on campus and dealing with certain eccentricities can be a bit irritating. Here are the top 10 irritating CSU campus quirks you face off with daily.
CSU construction creates constant noise, detours and is a pretty big eyesore. One second you’re admiring the beautiful trees in the Oval, and the next, you’re faced with an ugly dirt lot and ear piercing equipment noise. Sure, it’ll create some upgraded buildings, but by the time that actually happens, many of us Rams will probably be long gone.
Like a bad romantic partner who never comes through when you need them to, the CSU wi-fi just won’t seem to cooperate. You might have a crucial piece of research to fact-check for a project, or maybe you’re just trying to print a paper due in 10 minutes, and suddenly “Error 404” appears with a shaky wifi signal in the upper right-hand corner. Either way, wi-fi on campus can be somewhat unreliable.
Deer-in-headlight pedestrians afraid of bikes
It’s just another person riding on two thin wheels. Odds are, you’re going to make it to class, pedestrians…
Bikers with a death wish that make us afraid
… Then again, have you seen those crazy bikers swerving through lanes, going way too fast and neglecting to signal, recklessly navigating campus? Okay, maybe we are a little scared.
People who stop you in the Plaza
While they may not all have bad intentions, sometimes we just want to make it to class unscathed. Early in the morning or after a long day, it can be hard to entertain the idea of a weekend dance party, politics, a random cause or religion.
Murderous, falling winter tree branches
Just another thing to avoid on campus, except this time, it comes from above! While the trees in the Oval and around campus are beautiful in any season, in the winter, they may turn deadly.
People lacking passing period etiquette
We know of them all: the slow-walkers, the oblivious texters and those who travel in inappropriately great numbers. When it’s super crowded on campus, we are all just trying to make it to class. The other students shouldn’t have to be an additional obstacle.
Squirrels with no boundaries
A beautiful picnic in the Oval can be quickly interrupted by squirrels that get too close for comfort. While they may seem cute and harmless, keep an eye out for these evil minions of the CSU campus.
Very difficult to find parking
You could be just one minute too late to campus and finding parking will quickly become an endless, and seemingly hopeless, journey.
… It’s so bad, yes, we put it on this list twice.
