We’re the fierce leaders of Colorado State University, and we’ve been in school for far too long. We know every shortcut around campus and roll our eyes at happy-go-lucky freshmen. We are seniors in college, and here are five things you need to know about this special breed of student.
1. We operate on caffeine
It can be impossible to make it through the day without at least a few cups of strong coffee or tea first thing in the morning. Between 15-18 credit class loads, work and the hope to maintain a social life, we need a little help.
2. The classes we take are pretty intense
We aren’t talking about those 100 level intro classes with 300 students, five TA’s and a professor who frankly doesn’t care if you come to class or not. Seniors are wading in the dark, ominous waters that are 300 and 400 level classes, where they are given a maximum of two absences and probably have at least two projects or tests to look forward to during any given week. Let’s not even talk about the insane amount of required reading.
3. There is always an underlying nervousness about graduation
It doesn’t matter if it’s still a while off. Seniors are constantly wondering what is going to happen after they graduate. Did I choose the right major? Will I be able to find a job? What is the “real world” going to be like? Where will I end up going? Why are all of these lingering thoughts so constant???
4. When we aren’t working, we’re partying
Seniors use the little free time they do have to have fun and get wild. We’ve figured out time management by this point, and it’s crucial that we budget for time in our crazy schedules to get equally as crazy.
5. We’re so ready to be done
We’ve done our time, and we are ready to be out. We’re sick of pretentious professors and interruptions from people on campus who are, “… just wondering if I could ask you a few questions?” It’s likely that we are wearing headphones while venturing about the CSU campus to focus on just getting to class without dealing with anything or anyone else. If we’re not feeling too enthused, we might go to campus in straight up pajamas and all-over-the-place hair. We literally just want to do what we have to on campus so we can go home.
