Open Streets, a program created by the City of Fort Collins, encourages community participation and healthy living by temporarily closing city blocks and opening them to active forms of transportation.
The first Open Streets event takes place from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. Sunday, July 20.
“Open Streets is a fun way to promote healthy lifestyles and foster community through the creative use of public streets,” said Becky Moriarty, FC Bikes program specialist.
The route for the event includes East Laurel Street (Remington Street to Lesser Drive) and Whedbee Street (Laurel Street to Prospect Road).
Planned activities include: painting, yoga and Zumba classes, Frisbee, mini massages, a bicycle obstacle course, games, a scavenger hunt, product sampling, food and music. There will also be free injury consultations and vision screenings.
A second event is proposed for Sept. 14 on West Elizabeth Street (Shields Street to Overland Trail).
