The age-old rivalry between the Buffs and the Rams gears up in the form of a track and field meet in Boulder this weekend.
Heading into this invitational meet this weekend, CSU athletes marked some of their personal best performances at their most recent meet in Greeley at the Tom Benich Invitational last weekend.
Mountain West Athletes of the week, Trevor Brown and Jessica Sharbono, sealed first-place finishes in shotput, discus, the 110-meter hurdles and the 400-meter dash races and look to claim the same titles in Boulder.
Other groups on the team that look to continue their commanding victories are the sprinting team and the field teams. Sprinters Troy Johnson and Abby Simpson took first place in their sprinting events and long jumper Jonathan Edmunds and high jumper Collin Scheer came out on top in their events as well.
“Every opportunity where we have a quality meet and good weather conditions, it’s an opportunity for our athletes to solidify a spot on our Mountain West conference championship team or a chance to hit a standard high enough to qualify for a NCAA first round meet,” head coach Brian Bedard said.
The events for the CU invitational will kick off on Friday at 3 p.m. with the hammer throw and the javelin throw. The rest of the events will commence on Saturday at 11 a.m. and CSU will be looking to set more personal best records and take home some first place titles.
