“Dancers want a special floor, and with the student center renovation, we couldn’t find that in Fort Collins. The Avalon Ballroom was built by dancers, for dancers,” said Shelley Kerr, coordinator for the event.
The 50-piece Denver Pops Orchestra, also known as The Mostly Strauss Orchestra, will play waltzes and polkas by Strauss and Shostakovich along with more modern music by Mancini, Leroy Anderson and Duke Ellington.
“This is a totally unique event unlike any in Colorado. We have dancers come out from all over like Nebraska and Wyoming.”
Doors open at 7:30 p.m. while the Grand March will begin at 8 p.m. The dance floor won’t close until 11:30 p.m. so come early to dance as long as possible.
Dress up in formal, semi-formal or ethnic attire and party the night away. There will be costume awards, so don’t skimp out on this chance to look your best.
“It’s a fun time to be festive and creative,” Kerr said.
Tickets are $25 for non-students and $20 for students. They can be purchased at the door or online at www.fotd.org.
