Today from 11 a.m. to 7 p.m., head over to the Fort Collins Brewery to experience their newest creation, Hoptitude, a beer with attitude and altitude.
The brewery will be throwing a release party in honor of the new beer complete with games and chances to win discounts on brewery merchandise like t-shirts and stainless steel growlers.
The creators, including head brewer Alex Glaser, will also be on site to answer questions about the brewing process.
“This beer is a very crisp and refreshing beer … (customers) can expect to enjoy a generally malt back bone and refreshing dryness,” Glaser said.
The seasonal beer will be available until September, at which time the Brewery’s winter season beer, a double chocolate stout, will return.
“Essentially we wanted to create a warm weather beer, something that’s easily drinkable,” marketing director Charles Stanley said.
Hoptitude, an imperial extra pale ale, has 7.5 percent alcohol content. This is balanced with orange rind and citrus hops from New Zealand, according to Stanley.
“When it’s sunny out, people like easier drinking beer,” Operations Manager Doug Smith said. “Oranges and sunshine go together. We had to work hard to make it bright and interesting, but still easy to drink in the end.”
The recipe was judged by customers of the brewery who taste tested two different recipes called ‘Test Tube 1’ and ‘Test Tube 2.’ The result of the critique and some minor tweaks from the brewers created Hoptitude, what Stanley refers to as “a complex flavor profile.”
The brewery self distributes in Fort Collins and Loveland, but this beer will be available in 20 other markets, according to Smith.
The brewery is located at 1020 E. Lincoln Ave. in Fort Collins. Tours of the brewery are available on Saturdays every hour from 1 to 5 p.m.
