At 12:39 a.m, dozens of 911 calls were made to police reporting a shooting in an Aurora, Colo. movie theater. The current victim figures are now at 71 shot, 12 dead. James Holmes has been named as the suspected gunman.
As the day progresses, and more information comes out about the shooting, students on the CSU campus are continuing to react to the news coming out of Aurora.
“As soon as I woke up my boyfriend was like, ‘did you hear? listen to this!’ and was talking about the whole story,” said Mallory Ives, a junior psychology major.
“I do have people who live in Denver, and I contacted all of them to make sure they were okay. I also contacted my friends in Boulder because, well, you just never know,” Jackman added.
“Hopefully he will start talking and we can try and get behind the mind of someone like this. He was a pretty smart guy, he was a PhD student in neuroscience, so I just don’t know what could make him think to do that,” said Danielle Jackman, a PhD human development students.
“I think it will affect me by thinking twice about my everyday outings. I’m about to got to lunch with a friend and it definitely crossed my mind on the way here, what if I get hit by a truck? I don’t know how long that will last, but definitely today it will be in the foreground of my mind,” Ives said.
