Whether it is the last week of August or the last week of January, the first week of classes, otherwise known as “syllabus week,” is one many college students look forward to.
Syllabus week is known for its new beginnings and easy class sessions. This week is when all the ladies and gents are dressed to impress throughout the nights. This week is known for the blood, sweat and tears shed by college students as they mournfully fork over hundreds of dollars for “mandatory” textbooks. And by blood, I mean that the plasma center on West Elizabeth Street is probably poppin’ at this time of the school year.
Oh, and syllabus week is also most commonly known as the very last week where college students could afford to experience the nightlife of Fort Collins essentially every day of the week.
During a typical week at night, finding parking in Old Town is rare, but not impossible. The streets of Old Town would be bustling with families and college students looking to enjoy a delicious sit down meal at one of the many unique restaurants, or during later hours, one could find many individuals waltzing into bars filled with upbeat music, laughter and spilled drinks.
During syllabus week, the streets of Old Town were completely littered with late-night party-goers and bar hoppers. Even parking in one of the parking garages seemed nearly impossible. Those who chose to spend their precious syllabus week nights differently may have taken a drive down to Sundance, hosted their own version of a R.I.P Syllabus Week house party or merely decided to spend a little extra time with “Netflix and Chill.”
However, even though syllabus week has come to an end, the nightlife in Fort Collins continues to flourish and thrive every week of the school year – just maybe not so much on a random Monday night. Check back with my Nightlife blog this semester for updates about weekly events and happenings that could easily replace a night of Netflix.
