Three teens in Asotin County are being charged with felonies for possession of marijuana, according to Q13 FOX News.
A state prosecutor claims that Senate Bill 5052 details the new protocol officers will follow when arresting minors for pot use.
The new law is designed to steer teens away from using an “adult drug”, according to Washington Sen. Ann Rivers.
The teens are facing up to five years in prison. Previously in Washington punishment for a minor in possession has been a maximum of 90 days jail time.
