The 2012-2013 academic year brought much success to the CSU Athletic department.
Both Men’s Basketball and Women’s Volleyball made consecutive NCAA tournament appearances. Senior Colton Iverson led the basketball team, while senior Dana Cranston stepped up as a leader for the volleyball squad respectively.
Both were honored as the CSU Athletes of the year Wednesday.
Cranston takes home the Virginia K. Frank award after playing four seasons with the team. All four years she was on the team, the Rams won the Mountain West Conference title. During her senior year she led the Rams to their 18th consecutive NCAA tournament appearance.
“The experience I had at CSU cannot be explained in words,” Cranston said in a press release. “This recognition is very humbling but should go to the coaches who have guided and pushed me, the players who have stood with me through it all and the God who none of this would be possible without.”
The NYE Trophy goes to Colton Iverson, now of the Boston Celtics. The 7-foot tall hoops star helped the Rams win their first NCAA tournament game in years, while also setting a Moby Arena home-winning streak record at 27 games.
Iverson was drafted into the NBA in June with the 53 overall pick.
Iverson was not available for comment.
